Leonardo DRS has announced that it has been given authorization by the Department of Defense (DoD) to transport US government data across the company’s network. The approval by the DoD allows Leonardo DRS to continue to operate its Global Communications Network – a network serves satellite communication needs for the US military and government agencies around the world.
Leonardo DRS continues to maintain this accreditation, known as the DoD’s Risk Management Framework (RMF) continuous Authorization to Operate (ATO) and Authorization to Connect (ATC) to provide satellite-based information and communications technology (ICT) solutions to a range of US government agencies. The company specializes in mission-critical 'no-fail' solutions that meet rigorous and complex communications requirements.
Maintaining the ATO and ATC under the DoD Risk Management Framework is crucial for Leonardo DRS because it is required for any DoD system that processes, stores, receives, or in the case of the Leonardo DRS Global Communications Network (GCN), transmits data across its network infrastructure.

The Leonardo DRS GCN is a private ground-network of redundant Multiprotocol Label Switching, self-healing circuits that connects geographically diverse core nodes and teleports to provide 100 percent dual coverage of the world’s satellite arc visibility, along with highly available and secure global communications. To ensure the required levels of confidentiality, integrity, and availability are met, Leonardo DRS also provides a full range of engineering services along with 24x7x365 network management, control, and support through its Global Network Operations and Security Center (NOSC) and Continuity of Operations NOSC.
